Meet Ms. McLeod

Hi, I’m Melanie, mum of three small children and a Speld QLD Specialist Teacher dedicated to helping children crack the reading code. For over 15 years I’ve worked in schools as an Inclusive Education and Intervention Specialist, supporting students who need a little (or a lot) of extra help, as well as those who are flying along and just need a nudge to reach the next level.

I’m a qualified teacher with a Bachelor of Primary Education, postgraduate qualifications in Inclusive Education, and a certified Sounds-Write practitioner (aka the gold standard for teaching children to read, write, and spell developed and recommended by Speech Pathologists).

Why do I do it? Because there’s nothing better than the lightbulb moment when a child realises, “I can read this!” Watching their confidence soar is pure magic. And I believe every child deserves the chance to shine, whether that means conquering tricky words, tearing through chapter books, or discovering that reading can actually be fun.

At Rise Up Reading, I mix evidence-based strategies with plenty of encouragement to help students grow their skills, their confidence, and their love of learning.

Our Learning Options

  • Book Your Term 1 2026 Spot Today

Our tailored sessions are available in two convenient locations: before and after school at Holland Park State School on Tuesdays, and in our Home Reading Room. Specific days and times are subject to availability but can be requested and arranged directly.

  • One-to-One Sessions

    $85.00

Our one-to-one forty minute sessions provide individualised support tailored to your child’s needs. Each lesson is carefully planned using the evidence-based Sounds-Write program to strengthen reading, writing, and spelling. With personalised attention, students can progress at their own pace, build confidence, and develop the skills they need to thrive.

  • Small Group Sessions

    $48.00

Our small group half-hour sessions (maximum of 4 students) are engaging, collaborative, and fun, with group sizes kept intentionally small to allow plenty of individual attention. Students learn alongside peers at a similar level, practising reading, writing, and spelling through the evidence-based Sounds-Write program. These sessions not only strengthen skills but also build confidence, motivation, and a sense of community.
